As the ongoing government shutdown continues, many federal employees across the country, including right here in Utah, are feeling the impact. At Catholic Community Services of Utah, our mission has always been to meet the evolving needs of our community, especially during times of uncertainty.

Meeting the Needs of Federal Workers and SNAP Recipients

In response to the shutdown and the expected suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for the month of November, CCS is working to ensure that no one in our community goes without essential support.

At our Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank and Pantry in Ogden, we have suspended eligibility requirements for government employees. Federal workers can now access the pantry once per month—consistent with regular client visits—by presenting their government-issued ID. In anticipation of a surge in need, CCS is also expanding the number of Thanksgiving meal kits available this year so that every household can celebrate the holiday. Federal workers are eligible to sign up to receive a Thanksgiving meal kit alongside other pantry clients.

Beyond services in Ogden, CCS continues to serve those affected through our other programs. Federal employees and anyone in need of a hot meal are welcome at our St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall in Salt Lake City, which provides free daily meals.

How You Can Help

As we continue to make sure our neighbors have the assistance they need, we invite you to join us in this work. You can make a difference by donating nonperishable food items, contributing financially, providing a turkey for Thanksgiving meal kits, or encouraging others to do the same.

A complete list of priority food items needed at Basic Needs Ogden is available here. Donations can be dropped off at 2504 F Avenue in Ogden from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM on weekdays. In order to provide more Thanksgiving meal kits than usual this year, we are also requesting additional turkey donations from community members and partners. Turkey donations can be dropped off at 2504 F Avenue in Ogden from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM on weekdays from November 1 to November 21.

Monetary donations can be made at ccsutah.org/donate. Please select "Basic Needs Ogden" from the campaign drop down menu.

Together, we can ensure that every individual and family affected by the shutdown feels the support of a caring community. Thank you for helping us continue our mission to provide help and create hope for those who need it most.
